An untrained dog is the most common reason dogs are abandoned, given up for adoption and/or destroyed. How does your dog know what you want him to do unless you teach him? This can be frustrating for both you and your dog without the proper skills.
There are many antiquated methods and lots of free advice, but if it's wrong, it could cost you and your dog plenty. Positive training methods can correctly deal with common problems such as jumping and nipping without teaching your dog to fear you. Punishment can ruin a dog for life. Simply put, if training can be effectively accomplished without having to use negative methods, why should you attempt to train any other way?
